My New Blog

Apologies and Ideas…

I don’t really know how many people read my blog on a regular basis. I guess for you to read on a regular basis, I should probably post on a regular basis.

So I guess I should apologise for the lack of regular posts recently. There are a few reasons why this blog has been somewhat sparse recently. The main reason is that I have been really busy. My university life is drawing to a close, which means I have projects and assignments due, and final examinations are looming, so understandably my mind has been primarily focused on that.

As I always seem to, I have a couple of little projects going on not related to my degree at the moment. They are sort of on hold at the moment because of the workload of university, but I wanted to fill you in because I want your help.

In the coming weeks, probably around the middle of June sometime I plan to launch a new blog. I will be moving to a self hosted WordPress blog, and would love some input from my readers at to what they would like to see on it.

At the moment I plan to keep the title, 5enses – the world around me, or at least something to that effect, unless I can think of anything better, feel free to suggest something. What I would like you to do is suggest content for me to have on the blog. Whether that is something specific you would like me to blog about or discuss, a post you would like me to write, or whether you just have some general suggestions.

So have a think about it, and either leave a comment on this post, send a tweet to @connormcc or send me an email with your idea or suggestion

Cities I like Part 5…

Ok, so that last time I posted in my Cities I like series was 4th December, so this post is a little overdue…

Recap… my favourite cities so far have been,

  • Adelaide, South Australia,
  • Melbourne, Victoria,
  • Vancouver, British Columbia, and
  • Seattle, Washington…

Going from one side of the USA to the other, to New York City.

New York City, not the capital of NY state as many assume, is the most populated city in the USA, and beleive me when you are walking the wrong way through Times Square at about 5.30 you meet plenty of the New Yorkers heading home.

NYC is simply amazing, it’s a busy bustling and there is so much to do and see in Manhattan alone, and I only got to scratch the surface of it during my 5 days there.

As with any city, one of my favourite things to do is simply to walk around the city, and soak up the atmosphere of the place. To a certain extent I did that in NYC, but it is just such a vast city, I couldn’t just walk around. I’ll be honest, i did a lot of the touristy stuff that NYC has to offer. Some of my highlights of my few days would be,

Cycling around Central Park, its massive and took us all afternoon.
Walking across Brooklyn Bridge.
B & H Photo Camera Store, quite possibly the best camera shop I have ever been to.
Standing in the lobby of the Minskoff Theater looking out at Times Square all lit up ( and meeting Rob Thomas there)
Shake Shack in Madison Square Park, any food establishment that has a queue 100 people deep 20 minutes before it opens has to be good.
Watching the NY Mets play
Not sure its a highlight, but buying my fiancée an engagement ring from Tiffany’s was a pretty big deal…

I loved NYC so much, and I definately plan to go back some day and do lots of the stuff that I didn’t get to do, like go to Coney Island…

It’s Sunday…

The angel spoke to the women: “There is nothing to fear here. I know you’re looking for Jesus, the One they nailed to the cross. He is not here. He was raised, just as he said. Come and look at the place where he was placed.

Good Friday…

But it was our sins that did that to him,
that ripped and tore and crushed him—our sins!
He took the punishment, and that made us whole.
Through his bruises we get healed.

Exhibition Time…

As part of Fuel 09 I, along with a few other photographers . I have’t decided what to exhibit, I will be showing about 5 photographs, and I need your help. I need your suggestions, so please check out my flickr, and come back here and post the link to the photo in the comments section of this post, or email me with your suggestions. There is no specific theme, what would you like to see printed and mounted on display?

I love film…

I have been using Kodak BW400CN recently, it’s not true black and white film. It is black and white but it uses a colour process to be developed, I am using it because it means I can get the photos developed in Belfast and don’t have to send it away, but I have come to love the film, It’s really nice and contrasty if its developed properly.

St. Patrick’s Day 2009

I spent St. Patrick’s day this year in Dublin again, hanging out with a couple of friends. Dublin was completely packed, but it was still good banter. I did however manage to get my hand a little mangled during a game of ultimate frisbee when I was body-checked backwards into a tree… I am a little accident prone…

Belfast Flickr meetup…

On Saturday I attended my first Flickr meet up in Belfast. It was really good banter to meet up with other photographers and take a walk around the city, then get a tour of the newly renovated and reopened Ulster Hall. Unfortunately there was an event on in the Ulster Hall on Saturday evening, so the blinds were down and there was lots of dry ice and light testing going on, nevertheless I had a good day and got a few good shots anyway. I think my favourite photo from the day was inside St. Anne’s Cathedral, again I’ve been playing with texture overlays…

Here are a couple more…

More on Flickr as usual

Some Film…

Just got some more film back, my first colour film I have put through my Diana Cam, it was Fuji Superia 400 (120 film), Out of the 12 shots, 11 came out, I’ve uploaded 6 of them to my Flickr

This was my favourite shot from the roll, its of a busker outside what used to be Woolworths in Coleraine.

Also keep an eye out for photos from todays flickr meet / walk around belfast and the Ulster Hall
