Cities I like part 1…

I’ve decided to do a weekly post for the next few weeks on various cities that I have been to and that I really liked and would love to go back to…

Adelaide… it’s the capital of South Australia, with a population a little over 1 million. Adelaide is a planned city, and something that South Australians are proud of is that it wasn’t originally settled by convicts like other Australian cities.

I spent 4 or 5 days in Adelaide this summer. I say summer, it was summer at home, but winter in Adelaide. Aside from the fact that I got engaged in Adelaide, and have a good friend who lives there, there are a few other reasons why I liked it so much.

It is a very relaxed city, and to be honest has more of a ‘town’ feel rather than a city. It is quite residential, and while there are  a couple of ‘shopping’ streets, retail doesn’t seem to be  big thing in Adelaide. Due to the fact that Adelaide was a planned city there is quite a lot of park space, If you look at Adelaide on google maps you will notice there is parkland  surrounding the whole city centre. I was there in July, which is the middle of Australian winter. It did rain during the night, but not during the day, however it was pretty chilly, but coming from Northern Ireland that was ok.

If you are a sports fan there is Adelaide Oval, which is a beautiful cricket ground, (coming from someone who doesn’t really care about sport), and also the Bradman collection.

I felt very much at home in Adelaide, and I really hope to go back at some point in the future…

What cities do you love?
